 New retailing is characterized by less brick and mortar, popular social media, customer experiences, mobile and the Internet.  Facing the new challenges, one of the key issues in supply chains is to design an optimal and efficient distribution network.

In this talk, we present a framework for designing the distribution network in a supply chain. Various factors influencing the choice of distribution network are described. We then discuss different choices of distribution networks and their relative strengths and weaknesses. We also identify distribution networks that are best suited for a variety of customer and product characteristics.

Shanling LI  加拿大麦吉尔大学Desautels管理学院 运营管理 教授

德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校运营管理博士。浙江大学—加拿大麦吉尔大学全球制造与供应链管理(GMSCM)硕士项目加方主任，在GMSCM项目中教授Procurement and Distribution课程。李老师曾任加拿大麦吉尔大学Desautels管理学院副院长（2009—2013）、管理科学研究中心主任（1997—2013）。研究领域主要集中在运营与金融和市场的融合；随机动态环境中技术选择及产能扩张决策；供应链管理等。李教授大部分的研究案例都来自于IBM、GE、普惠等跨国公司，同时她的研究成果也被刊登在《Management Science》、《Operations Research》等知名学术期刊上。
